"Just wanderin the roads and came across your site. I’ts freakin excellent!

"Was diagnosed in 2000, geno 2a, 2 rounds of tx, haven’t been back since last January, it was undetectable then. Hopefully the shit still is! I know I should go and get checked, just don’t want them telling me any bad news...

"Be Safe, Lil Bit"

“Hi,

“My name is Rory, im 22 years old and i have Hep-C. Actually my husband and I both have it. He got it in Prison about 5 years ago and i got it about 2 years ago sharing a needle. His body is fighting it off on his own, its been in remission for 4 years. Mine isn't. I haven't got treatment or anything like that yet because to be honest, it fucking scares me. Ive seen a lot of people on Interferion and it doesnt look fun!

"I wanted you to know,i love your sight, its all in a way that i can understand it. Actually learn something and i like that.

“Thanks soo much for what your doing and keep up the good work.

“Cheers, Your Comrade Rory”

"Hi KC.   Got your email so I went over and checked out the Site.   It is looking GREAT!   Keep up the good work!   You are doing a wonderful job!    There can never be too many sites about Hepatitis C.   We have SO MANY people to educate.

"Peace

“Hi, Everybody.

“I was just out for a little cruz around looking for a chat room or interesting Hep C site and here you are!

“Nice work on everything I’ve seen and read so far.

“Have had HCV since I bought into it in 68 and man has it ever grown over that time. If only it could have been stocks, I’d be rich, rich, rich.

“I’m end stage but doing very well some of the time. Have had just three major bleeds, close to 30 bandings and gluings and 2 failed treatments,( I’ve always wondered why they call them treatments?) now I’m going back for a third, if my hemo tests say I can take it. I have a real good specialist, the transplant people are also great and my family has been more than wonderful, especially since I made them get on this roller coaster with me whether they like it or not, but they all got on and stuck with me.

“Anyways, thanks again for your energy and time. Bye.

"Dear friends and fellow bikers,

"I was searching around for the lastest treatments for Hep C and ran across your site, and so glad I did.  I believe its the best, most inteligible, "straightup" about the subject I've ever come across. I was diagnosed in 2000; then a week before I was to start my treatment on the "old" Interferon A,  I got in a wreck on my Kawee Vulcan 1500 out on I-10 and broke the hell outta my lower left leg. That took about 3 years 5 or six surgeries to get healed up right. Then my Gastro-Ent. Md advised I do something about the Hep C, that Peg-Interferon and Rebitrol/Copegus was now FDA cleared and the front line for treating me, that we could do three months and see how it goes.  Continue if its effective and not killing me. Anyway, I had the typical HCV mental and physical symtoms and problems escallating, they put me on Prozac, and a month later I started treatment. I'm glad I have a faith, and my church supporting me too.  I have type 1, and really, being male, big, and mid forties was not the best prognosis area. Well low and behold, I'm non-detectactable at 3 months, and stayed that way for almost  3 years.   After the first couple weeks, I drug myself back to work, on a reduced schedule, but I did keep going. I found Friday night the best time to do the shot. Hey then give myself the weekend to get better and have some good Saturday night time and Sunday with the family.

"Last year my followup bloodwork showed the Crap was back, but Not in a big way. They've been following it every six months, and now I'm getting  concerned at the elevating viral load count, but you know, I'm just going to have to go back to doing all the healthy lifetstyle choices I was doing.

"If your going through treatment try these things:

  • Green Tea, Ginger tea, and other teas, dump the coffee. Dump the Sodas (and beer and booze)

  • Tonic Water though on ice is real good though! Oh, and dry candied Ginger root for the stomach.

  • Don't eat so damn much of heavy foods. Take it easy on your system and get rest when your tired and need it.

  • Don't try to fight the "Depression/Despair" Monster alone. Accept that appropriate medications can help, and so can friends, and getting out.

  • Get to the Gym, and in the pool. Working out to keep up my range of motion and some stamina really made me feel better and do more, gave me energy.

"I got through about 50 weeks of the shots and pills and came out the other side a restored man. It remains to be seen now what will happen but I'm keeping positive and ready to do what I need to do be in this life with my wife, kids and family. Thanks for listening (Mwitok Oyasin-All my relations-Blessings) Kiowtee Phil"

"Hi There!

"I just had a quick look at your site, congrats it is super! I like the layout and the straight out talk, up here the politically correct crap can get annoying. Keep up the good (no-bullshit) work. If enough people talk about the realities of HCV the right people will hear about it and maybe do something!"

"HI,

"THIS IS A PRETTY NEAT SITE, GLAD I RAN INTO IT.  HEAD ON TO!!!  DO I TELL MY STORY OR WHAT? OR JUST SAY HI TO YOU ALL?  LET ME KNOW.  I HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM OTHERS THAT MAY BE GOING THROUGH WHAT I AM OR HAVE BEEN THERE.  MY NAME LITTLEDOGS (:  UTAH.

"Love your cite, sometimes a person needs the ol' humor and layman talk.

"I used to party hard, cleaned up my act twenty years ago, thinking, whoa I survived over twenty years of drug addiction and grateful to half a second start. Started college and worked my ass off to succeed. Got a masters degree in counseling psych, and then specialized in addictions. One day I went for a physical and the doc said she would have to report her findings...I had at that time chronic Hep C, genetype 1, stage 2. They also found that I also have fatty liver disease, and hemochromatosis, which is a hereditary blood disorder that stores iron in your blood and in major organs, ie liver, kidneys, spleen and heart. Biopsy showed iron saturations in my liver of 80%.

"I had to drain my blood to lower iron levels, (therapeutic phlebotomies), they historically would use leeches, I am so glad for medical advancement!! Anyhow, iron negates HCV treatments, so it needed to get to almost enemic levels for the treatments to succeed.  Completed 48 weeks of peg interferon and copegus treatments and viroload showed negative....1 year or so later viroloads skyrocketed and my stage moved into 3, riding on 4. Bummer. I've lost 50lbs or more with nausea, and attempts to shrink my liver for the fatty liver disease.

"Now the docs told me that maybe if I had just continued with the HCV treatments a little longer I may have had increased response and remission...New research shows to stay on the treatments longer, after the viroload shows negative... especially the first time around as your body develops antibodies to the treatment and become immune to treatment, making the second...or third go around with treatment not as successful.

"More testing, ie... liver biopsies, CT scans, etc. shows that I am riding the end stages of liver disease with fibrosis/early chirrosis. They are doing CT scans every 6 months for liver cancer cuz they found some nodules on my liver.

"So to treat or not to treat....

"I just bum, cuz I've worked so hard to be clean and sober, and have tried to help others get clean through working as a mental health therapist. I always thought that I lived the way I did so that I could help others...kind of like life's internship to relate to assist others. Been there, done that sort of thing. Now I can still be a been thar done that with hepc.

"My brain fog is horrifying and I'm leaving my career because of it. I am not as focused or organized as I once was...and I was a little spacy before. It has been hard to accept and now the counselor is going to counseling....but she hasn't been thar , done that. I hate that...trying to find someone who can understand. 5 years ago, when I found out I have hepc, I bought a little cabin in the woods, thinking I'll just retreat back to the forests and be spiritually lifted to a new level...life goes on, and will I... "Hey I just wanted to let you know I enjoyed your site. I just finished cancer treatment and had my first "so far you're cancer free" when 1 month later I have my first, "You have Hep C"

"I haven't even been to a gastro yet. I've had 3 surgeries and numerous visits to a hematologist for the cancer....hmm.. where do you think I caught Hep C?

"Anyway, wish me luck... good luck from now on!"

"Hey, I just found the link to your site on Hep C Hidout.  Lot's of info here, and I love the fact it's written by and for bikers, straightup talk I can understand.

"I have finally made the decision to go with treatment, and fuckin scared about it too.  I have genotype 1A lookin at goin for a year of treatment, biopsy shows stage 2 grade 2.   Last year my viral loads were at 33,000,000 just got new blood work done by my NEW Dr. and they came back only 3,000,000.  I have been drinking lots of water these days, wonder if that had anything to do with the decrese with the loads? Go back to my new Doc in 2 weeks to talk to her about  the test results and treatment.

"I'll be back to your site 'Fo Sho.'"

Take care,

Vikie in Dallas

"I just wanted to thank you for responding to my questions. I was a little panicked about my niece when I wrote you. She went to see the gastro guy last week and we're waiting on the blood test results and to see what the doctor recommends. This disease is certainly a wait and see and wait some more kind of a thing.

"You do a great service with your honest, common sense answers. Thanks again."
